    Lately my YouTube algorithm started feeding me videos of people throwing a powerful magnet into the murky waters of urban canals, forgotten rivers, or industrial ports, searching for treasure. They drag the rope until it suddenly goes taut: the magnet has latched onto something. They pull slowly, gently, as if waking a sleeper who has been dreaming for centuries. And from the black depths rises a bicycle devoured by time, a safe sealed for decades, a military helmet, a bunch of keys no one remembers losing, sometimes a pistol that no longer fires yet still carries all its rusted menace… or simply a toaster lying belly-up, its cord coiled like a dead snake.

    At first I thought I was watching only for the thrill of unexpected treasure. But the more I watch, the clearer it becomes: these silent men and women standing on the bank beneath grey northern-European skies are, without knowing it, performing a perfect ritual of Pluto in Scorpio.

    They are not looking for gold. They are looking for whatever was deliberately (or accidentally) thrown into the water so it would vanish from shame, fear, guilt… or simply because it was useless, ugly, in the way, because one day someone got sick of seeing it in the kitchen and flung it into the canal in rage or indifference.

    And they do it in waters usually saturated with centuries of urban poison: heavy metals, oils, chemicals no one ever wanted to name. They dare to plunge their hands (and their soul) into the toxic without magical gloves, armed only with a magnet and a quiet decision.

    The magnet does not judge. It attracts whatever is metallic, dense, whatever was once magnetised by the force of an extreme emotion. In doing so it reveals the deep law of Pluto in Scorpio: nothing lived with absolute intensity can ever truly be lost; it can only sink, wait, rust, until a greater polarity born from the same core returns to claim it.

    That is why these modern seekers are Plutonian teachers showing us what must be done to unearth what we have forgotten yet still occupies space at the bottom of our inner abysses. With their rope and neodymium magnet they silently demonstrate what Plutonian transformation demands: the willingness to descend into murky, toxic waters to discover what is waiting there.

    Sometimes what surfaces is terrifying: a hermetically sealed box of bullets. Sometimes it is joyful: a gold coin from a Spanish pirate galleon. Sometimes it is only a toaster.

    But always, always, they clean up. Whatever has no further use goes into the rubbish and they call the council to collect it. And when the magnet unexpectedly brings up a crab, a river crayfish, or a fish still breathing in the mud, they look at it for a second, greet it almost with reverence, and gently release it back into the water.

    That is the most beautiful face of the ritual: in the midst of the toxic and the rotten, they recognise life and let it continue on its way.

    Interpreting Pluto’s Transits in Everyday Life

    Over the next 20 years, Pluto will transit through Aquarius. We have already felt its energy from March 23 to June 11, 2023. After its retrogradation, Pluto will return to Aquarius on January 20, 2024, and will remain there until September 1, 2024. Subsequently, it will retrograde again until November 19 of the same year, thus beginning its direct transit through Aquarius for the next 20 years.

    Although much has been said about the negative effects of Pluto’s transits, the truth is that Pluto has been transiting the skies forever. It is true that, at times, Pluto’s transits are associated with personal crises, especially when they form aspects with personal planets. However, Pluto simply indicates common processes of life. We can consider Pluto as the one responsible for eliminating the residues that obstruct our personal fulfillment.     Pluto’s Transit in Aquarius Through the 2nd House

    Considering that the last time we had Pluto in Aquarius was in 1777, we have little information about the personal consequences of this transit. However, Thomas Moore, the Irish writer, poet, and lyricist born in 1779, with his natal Pluto in the 2nd House, can show us a Pluto in Aquarius through his words

    The 2nd House is traditionally the house of money. But, in reality, we associate it with money because money allows us to buy food, clothes, services,… and everything we need to survive. So… there must be a more “organic” explanation of the 2nd House… which is closely linked with the energy of Taurus. For example… what does the 2nd House symbolize for my cat? In her case, the ability to hunt her own food is a typical 2nd House characteristic. Or her meow to tell me that she’s hungry.

    So, in the 2nd House, we see what resources we have at our disposal to provide us with what we need to live. The sign found on the cusp of the 2nd House indicates the way, the style in which we face this primordial aspect of our existence. The planets represent different expressions of our essential geometry.

    Pluto’s transit confronts us with what we need to take a deeper look at… what we’ve avoided seeing until now. When Pluto is in Aquarius, it comes to free us from social conditioning that keeps us trapped within a cultural structure (status quo) that does not allow us to do something different, unique, new. This combination in the 2nd House leads us to investigate the origin of any insecurity we have about our abilities to be self-sufficient using personal genius.

    When we interpret the transits of Pluto, it is very important to take into account the natal position, since the transits actually assist the evolutionary path described by natal Pluto. As I just mentioned, the transit through the 2nd House awakens the insecurities we feel regarding our ability to supply ourselves with the essentials for subsistence. Pluto comes to clear up those insecurities and once we do, we do a step forward on the evolutionary path indicated by the natal position.

    But of course… Pluto, as the god of the Underworld, can take us to landscapes of our subconscious that we don’t even want to look at! Instead of freeing ourselves from social conditioning, we cling more to it! This is how the transit of Pluto in Aquarius can lead us to join groups -and by “groups” I mean what makes us feel part of a community (including friends)- that limits our individual freedom for the well-being of the group. In this way, we avoid feeling the fear that any type of social marginalization causes us. In the 2nd House, the insecurity we may feel intensifies every time we use our personal resources in an unconventional way. And yet… it is exactly in those moments that Pluto in Aquarius opens the door to the basements of the subconscious so that we can ask ourselves… “where does this fear come from?”.

    In any case, Pluto in the 2nd House, both natal and by transit, arouses the deepest fears related to the possibility of being able to supply ourselves with what we need to live. There may be ancestral memories of famine, poverty or not being up to the task. These are memories that are stored in our DNA and even in the memories of the soul. The evolutionary work is to be reborn in a new reality… free of past conditioning.

    If the 2nd house cusp is in Capricorn, Pluto has long been in our 2nd house. In Capricorn, Pluto has confronted us with our (lack of) internal authority. We have had to investigate how social values have influenced the use of our potentialities and we have had to learn to follow our own rules in order to feel some kind of personal power. This evolutionary work will continue until November 2024. However, Pluto’s entry into Aquarius in March 2023 can give us a hand! We will feel a great desire to free ourselves from those structures that limit our potential and we will have 23 more months to continue creating an internal base on which to build our material reality according to our own objectives.

    If the 2nd House cusp is in Aquarius, Pluto in Aquarius revolutionizes the way we use our internal and external resources. Now more than ever we are going to feel an imperious desire to exercise our personal freedom and our focus is intensely directed toward material independence. Pluto will bring to the surface the insecurities that do not allow us to be ourselves when it comes to self-sufficiency… and external “actors” could appear to make us face our deepest fears. Pluto-related crises, while they can be felt intensely, arise so that we can access our ancestral memories and the subconscious behaviors that control our daily lives.     A Brief Look at Pluto

    Pluto in the natal chart shows us the trail that leads to the release of past conditioning, at both ancestral and soul levels. Its position in the birth chart shows where we are stuck, reliving ideas, feelings, actions, and experiences that belong to an old self. At first, when we are very young, we do not realize what is happening… Without knowing it, our reactions arise from archetypal behaviors strongly linked to the astrological house where Pluto is located. Like a chrysalis that still surrounds us… the memory of “past lives” makes us follow parameters that are not really part of our present. And Pluto somehow acts as a bridge between the two worlds.

    For me, the example of the caterpillar and the butterfly perfectly exemplify Pluto. The caterpillar does not disappear, it simply transforms inside the chrysalis. Although the forms change, the butterfly is still the caterpillar… although now it has wings and a new potential. With its transformed body, the butterfly is able to see the world of the caterpillar from a new perspective… a perimeter that, although it has been full of challenges and adventures, is smaller than the world that opens before her. In the birth chart, Pluto shows that although we are already a butterfly, we still somehow believe we are the caterpillar. Thus, we have not yet realized our present potential.

    Of course, spreading our wings is not easy, since we do not know that we have them! Pluto pushes us to jump and fly… and that activates an alarm within us that awakens the survival instinct, which leads us to cling to what we know with all our might.

    We can also see Pluto as the collector of the etheric garbage (or the chrysalis) that does not allow us to recognize our current state and that, for some reason, still surrounds us. Pluto is collecting what is no longer useful and taking it away. It is our attachment to what was and our desire not to lose it that creates the Plutonian crises.

    Pluto’s transits are also activating these memories of the past and in my opinion, they assist the natal position of Pluto. However, transits activate other aspects of our reality, side by side with the Plutonian signature of birth. Although Pluto’s transits can be intense, they are also parallel to our initiation path, and for this reason, the elimination process is experienced in a more conscious way. It is easy to believe that Pluto’s natal position shows a personal trait and not a process of regeneration. Transits help us distinguish Plutonian energy, and by paying attention to our reactions during these transits, we can begin to recognize our natal Pluto.

    The transit of Pluto in Capricorn in the 1st House – Capricorn and Aquarius Rising

    In Capricorn, Pluto activates the internal authority in each one of us. Now the “fight” begins between getting out or staying inside the chrysalis. Staying inside means eternal childhood. Pluto becomes the external authority that exercises power over us and we comply with what this authority asks of us. As a result, and unconsciously, the most immature state of Cancer (the opposite sign of Capricorn) is activated within us: we become overly emotional, moody, insecure, and sometimes even demeaning in our dealings with others! Other times we feel trapped in obligations that do not really correspond to our personal interests, accumulating a great feeling of powerlessness… that often remains suppressed from our consciousness.

    If we decide to come out of the chrysalis, we embark on regenerating internal authority, making our own decisions, and becoming the CEOs of our own lives. That’s the real personal power we develop when Pluto transits Capricorn. Step by step, we open our own path through self-discipline, which is always accompanied by the joy of following – with tenacity – the true goals of our Being.

    How does this translate when Pluto in Capricorn transits the 1st House? In the 1st House, our evolutionary process seeks the regeneration of personal power. This means that we are going to experience everything that I have just mentioned in our own identity. We get personal power when we manage to connect with our internal authority. But not to rule or control others, but, as I said before, to become our own CEOs! The 1st House is completely – and correctly – individualistic. It is about oneself. Any challenge or experience of oppression we have been through has been aimed at discovering our inner strength. When Capricorn is our rising sign, the transit of Pluto leads us to incarnate those parts of the personality that have not been fully developed… like our responsibility, our commitment to achievement, and our ambition! But if we stay inside the chrysalis and hide our emotions, our motivations, and even our desires, the internal pain can become very strong and in the end, the excess poison that we carry inside is released to the outside… The advice is to associate with individuals who accept us as we are and, in this way, give us the space to express our authenticity.

    There’s a reason we don’t want to leave the chrysalis… Generally, these reasons come from unpleasant experiences that have inhibited our spontaneity. If Aquarius is our rising sign, then these inhibitions have to do with something that makes us different from the status quo. Pluto’s transit activates our essential geometry and with it, brings experiences that differentiate us even more from conventional reality. What hurts is not our sense of Self, but the artificial mask that we have created to hide it. That mask is cold, it doesn’t feel, and it can become so cerebral that it forgets the warmth of Life.

Capricorn in the 12th House provides us with the self-discipline necessary to walk pragmatically in the shadows. Having the god of the Underworld trigger our unconscious fears has given us the courage to address them in a constructive way. At least, that’s the gift of this Pluto transit!

    So, during the next 23 months, as Pluto conjuncts our Ascendant in Aquarius, we are going to feel very strongly all the masks we have used to not stand out, not appear different, and be accepted by our community. But there is no need to worry so much… because the transit of Saturn through the 12th House has prepared you for this moment. The main thing is that you trust yourself and that you free yourself from any social convention that does not belong to your own nature.

Although the transformation process is individual, the way we go through it is shared by a large number of people. Basically, we are not alone when facing the force of the subconscious. The individuals of the same Plutonian generation develop something in common, which allows the evolutionary process to be lived together while each one has the experience from their unique perspective.

    The 12th House is the last astrological house. In a certain way, here we see the integration of our passage through all areas of life represented by houses 1st to 11th. In affinity with Pisces, this house is where we let ourselves go with the flow and surrender to the mystery of Life. without any resistance. Everything that happens in this house is out of our control. Therefore, we also see here the prenatal experiences, the world of dreams and spirituality.

    When Pluto is in the 12th House, the god of the Underworld rules within the unconscious. The limits of the unconscious are unknown… but taking into account the symbolism of the 12th House, Pisces, Neptune, and Jupiter (both co-rulers of Pisces), we can imagine that it is like a wave of connection, in constant expansion.

    So, in the 12th house, we access something much bigger than ourselves, and at the same time, that ‘something’ has access to us. Because of this fact, the planets in the 12th House – although they are a part of our consciousness, do not belong to us completely, but transcend our own being. For example, Diego Maradona with the Sun conjunct Neptune in Scorpio (a very Plutonian position) in the 12th House, became an absolute myth. The idealized image of his person belonged to the fans.

    When it comes to Pluto, the part of us that transcends our own selves has to do with regeneration and personal power, as well as the taboo and the secret. At the same time, the circumstances of her death continue to be the subject of studies, documentaries, etc. She has become a collective obsession.     I have mentioned the example of Diego Maradona and Marilyn Monroe to exemplify the concept of universality that the planets of the 12th house reflect. Those planets (or expressions of our consciousness) will be shared with the rest of the world in some way or another. We don’t need to be as famous as Maradona or Marilyn. In fact, many times they did not say “I” when talking about themselves but used the third person when referring to the public figure. When they referred to themselves, Maradona was Pelusa – the nickname his mother had given him. Marilyn was Norma Jean, her real name.

    And this is what happens with the planets in the 12th House. Somehow, these planets become an expression that goes beyond ourselves and is fed by the collective unconscious. We may or may not be aware of it, but what we will surely experience is a connection with this energy that is beyond our control. When it comes to Pluto, the collective projects on us a great personal power, a great source of internal resources to go through any crisis, sex appeal, and at the same time, the shadow of the collective unconscious, which is closely linked to the characteristics of the sign where Pluto is.

    But is it true that these characteristics do not belong to us? As I have said before, in the 12th House we see the integration of all our experiences. When Pluto is there, there is a work of evolution going on. The personal power that Pluto symbolizes is extraordinary. Are we able to integrate it into our psyche or are we going to dissociate it? It all depends on our relationship with personal power.
